Mexican Clay Alebrijes Mythical Creatures
These are small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, but they are truly fantastic. You don't have to be a child to use your imagination to build creatures from clay (but folks 10 and up are welcome). These mythical creatures are so much fun to make ! Imagine a flying turtle with antlers and a lizard tongue or a rabbit with bat wings and duck feet or a monkey with duck lips and a rooster comb? Exactly the type of fun you will have making by hand sculpting these creatures out of self hardening clay, which you will then come back and paint in the most brilliant colors and designs imaginable to the delight of everyone ! You'll come in and make them, then come back to paint them OR, you can take them home and paint them there. You decide. In Mexican mythology, the most well-known "clay creature" is called an "Alebrije" - a vibrant, whimsical creature often depicted in folk art, combining features of different animals with fantastical elements, often made from clay and representing spirit guides connected to nature. Just in time for cinco de Maio !
